I am specifically signing up to post about this disgusting and wretched theatre. First off, my main pet peeve is that Cinemark and Uptown have some bizarre deal going where they split movie showings. For example, if I want to see Movie A in Sierra Vista, it is either exclusively playing at the Cinemark or the Uptown. That means that if I would like to see a specific showing that is only being shown at Uptown, I am forced to either go there (which I would not) or wait until its blu-ray release. When I first found out about this, I decided to give it a shot. I had heard bad things, but I did not have any inkling of what was to come. When I got there, the woman who ran the ticket booth was both unsmiling and when I gave her a cheery "hello" she merely shrugged at me. When I tried to coax a response out of her she just stared at me handing me my ticket. When I walked into the theater the smell of what I can only describe as urine blasted me in the face. My wife insisted we at least give the popcorn a try, and I am sad to say that it for some reason seemed to soak in that same urine-esque taste that I could only hope to drown out with my already flat soda. I entered the actual showing room and couldn't believe my eyes. The screen was about the size of a large TV you might find in someone's home and the seats are stacked in front of each other so if someone tall sits in front of you, you will not be even allowed to attempt to enjoy whatever is playing. Better yet, the seats are sticky and the same pervasive urine smell permeates every fibre of the damned theatre's being. The quality of the sound was also dreadful. I imagine I could have received better aural properties from the stock speakers that came with my family's first Gateway computer in 1995. My favorite part of the Uptown Experience® was when my wife decided to go out and get some salt for our unflavored popcorn. Apparently the woman at the ticket counter was displeased with me at the front, and my wife caught her in the middle of describing me and heard her distinctly call me an "asshole." Nothing like a family running some hole in the wall business into shambles by disrespecting their customers behind their backs (or at least, attempted). If I was allowed to rate this 'establishment' (for lack of a better word), it would be negative stars, but unfortunately Yelp's rating system lacks this, in this case, much needed ability. I can only pray that Cinemark monopolizes the system and completely runs the Uptown out of business. Good riddance to bad filth.

I went here a few years ago and the theater was dirty, and smelled of urine pretty badly. But after going to see Hotel Budapest a few days ago I have to say they've really turned the theater around. Staff were friend and accommodating, and the theater itself was noticeably cleaner. The seats and floors were not sticky and the urine smell was replaced by a faint odor of simple green or something like that. Overall, I think they are working to remove the negative image they have gained. I'd go back there again in a heartbeat (and likely will due to the movie distribution set up in town).

So I see this place has a bad rap. I had never been there before this week and my experience was.. Decent. I'm not going to knock stars off for being outdated (while it sucks it's outdated, its a cool little place). First off, the concession counter is a mess- it's slow and unorganized. However the people were very nice that worked there. With a little management and a small refresh (which costs $$) I think there could still be some life here. That life, however will need a large some of cash. I'm guessing its a small family owned place, which is great for the community but I'll also agree the service/staff/management could use some training in service. Otherwise, my experience was not bad at all. It's old, seemed clean to me.

Long ago, there was a charming little theater called the R&M. Uptown 3 opened and stole a bunch of R&M's business because Uptown was the "new" theater in town. Eventually, Cinemark opened at the mall and R&M wisely turned into a dollar theater for a few years before shutting down. I so wish we could trade Uptown for R&M. That theater was clean, conveniently located, and inexpensive. Uptown is not. Let's start with the fact that Uptown smells funky. You think it's urine, but then you think, no, no theater could possibly still get first run showings when the whole place smells like urine...right? Wrong. Uptown smells like urine, although I've heard the owners say it's just their cleaning solution. Which, now that I think about it, could be even scarier. It's dirty. The seats are slick. If some woman with a beehive hairdo sits in front of you, your movie experience is ruined because there is no stadium seating. The staff (the owners) are always sloppily dressed and unsmiling. In the summer, they offer free kids movies, but I take my kids to the dollar showings at Cinemark instead. The worst part is that Uptown has the same distributor as Cinemark, so the first run movies are split between the theaters. Uptown is actually MORE expensive than Cinemark, which is a real travesty. I will drive to Tucson before I see a movie at Uptown.

My wife and I drove 76 miles round trip to see a movie that was advertised on Uptown 3's website. When we arrived, the movie was not playing. An unfortunate teenaged employee was embarrassed, and she explained that the owner/manager decided to pull the movie, not change the website, and then leave on a cruise. Really? This place is awful.

I've been to many locally owned theaters in many different states..... This one is completely substandard. From first entering, it has an old dirty/wet carpet odor. Inside the theater, it was VERY grimy and seats are extremely dirty. I could only pray roaches wouldn't crawl on me when lights went out!! I WILL drive to Tucson before ever turning to this theater!!

First, I vote that we change the name to Craptown 3. Uptown is no longer a viable name. I remember when Uptown 3 opened and it was the hottest theater in town, putting the older theater, R&M Cinema to shame. Well, them days are looooooong gone. Craptown 3 needs a severe makeover. I pretty much refuse to go here unless convinced to go by either friends, who better have a good reason not to go somewhere else or by my 8 yo nephew or other kids in my life. When I look at the Cinemark listings and don't see the movie I wanna see listed, my heart sinks and I get a sick feeling in my gut as I type into Google, "Uptown 3 showing"...Once I verify that they somehow managed to once again get a good movie in their craptastic little theater...I immediately have to weigh whether the movie is something I wanna see right now or do I want to spend the $80.00 to fill up my gas tank and drive to Tucson, or can it wait until DVD and hopefully I'll remember I wanted to see it when that time comes. Usually, I end up choosing to wait. Why? The theater stinks, the prices are ridiculous, the theater stinks, the condiments aren't all that and it's run down. Uptown 3 needs a new look and a couple of Frebreze bombs. P.S. - The theater stinks.

I am all for supporting the local establishments VS large chains, but I don't think this facility is up to snuff. Tickets are a tad more expensive than Cinemark at the mall. They have 4 theaters and I still have no idea how they get first run movies. Facility is pretty run down. AC/ventilation isn't on the comfortable side. Chairs are very old and uncomfortable. Picture/Sound is hit/miss. I think this place is perfectly fine for non-blockbusters and first run shows. It also seems to attract an older crowd on average as compared to the mall. If there is a first run movie that I really want to see and Uptown has it, I'd rather make the drive up to Tucson and see it properly in a more modern movie theater. (make some much needed renovations and I'll come back and try it out again, until then, I'll continue to grumble and cringe when the movie I want to see shows up listed under Uptown on google.)

It is an older theater, so it doesn't have the amenities that the Cinemark at the mall has. However I always enjoyed the shows here. They sometimes get art house films.

I cannot un-recommend this stink-hole enough. It's nasty, it's tiny, the concessions are overpriced and undersized, the screens are small, the sound is bleh and the whole place smells. I haven't even gotten to the worst part: the bathrooms. Grown men who fought through Normandy would be scarred by the hellish nightmare that some desert redneck visited upon that poor men's room. The stench was so powerful that the two employees HAD to smell it from their concession stand, six feet away from the door, yet they did nothing to prevent it. Somebody should be tried for war crimes over that toilet. Honestly. There should be a memorial outside the theater in tribute to the souls whose innocence was destroyed by that heinous alter of evil.

When I walk in I smell fresh popped popcorn. But when I got into the theatre I was squished but a guy. I was kinda uncomfortable. We watched max great movie btw. I like how reasonable prices are here! The theatre needs improvements but is very good. And it is local :) -Bailey

Quaint quiet movie spot. It doesn't have all the spark and glitter the big theaters have, but it nice to watch a movie in a place that is not overrun with the teenagers. The food prices are reasonable and sound and picture quality are good. It's great they provide free movies for families in the summer time and show some movies the big theaters in town won't. Yes it could use some upgrading, but takes money and is not always easy to come by. They have been making slow improvements so give them support so they can get to be the theater I am sure they want to be as well.

I will agree with some of the other reviewers that the theater has a funky smell. But it really does have a certain charm. It's a locally owned and operated theater and I'm a big fan of buying local. No stadium seating here either. Which is kind of annoying in this day and age. This theater could really use a makeover. I bet it would get more business if it did. The popcorn was good and the staff were friendly. This theater reminds of the one that was in my town when I was growing up. Three screens and located in a little strip mall half way to Hereford. Sierra Vista is a small town and for a small town, this is not a bad option.

Cute little hometown theater. Funky smell but the seats were comfy. Could use a make-over, but where is the fun in going to the same large theater. I like it because it reminds me of the dollar theater I would go to as a kid with my family. Make memories at theaters like this little one.

Yes it is the older theater in the area but I would much rather go here than the big commercialized one. It only has three theaters but they are large and the seats are comfortable. For someone who has knee problems I enjoy not having to walk up steps in the dark. My kids and I specially like that we can put as much butter on our popcorn as we want instead of the person behind the counter doing it.

Sucked. Went there for the first time today with my three kids. Popcorn was stale, and they don't even offer a free refill like the other theater does. Seats suck, completely uncomfortable. Why don't businesses care about the quality of their venues?

This place smells. My buddies like to go there because it's cheap and they have comfy seats, but when I think about the disease and disgust that lie on the cushion, I throw up a little in my mouth and hold it in until the movie is over.

This theater is pathetic. Even the popcorn butter (?) is awful! Shun it like the plague.

My husband thinks this rickety old rat trap theater has charm. So I've added one star only because I love him. See, he likes that it's older. It reminds him of the theaters he went to when he was a child. Now I get the appeal of an older theater from the 50's, perhaps even the 60's.....and certainly decades before then when movie theaters were lush, velvety and grand. But some rundown three-screened shoe box built into a tiny strip mall from the 70's or the 80's? With a ramshackle concession counter like that of a kid's lemonade stand? With a two to three man staff that run business with the half ass nonchalance of a couple of buddies smoking pot and playing some video games in their basement? The "charm" is lost on me.

I found this to be a quaint & charming theater. Which means, yes, it's old, but that doesn't necessarily mean bad. Here are the pluses: No mall people Decent prices: adult tickets are $5.50 for matinees & $7.50 after 5pm interesting surroundings they sell old movie posters for a few bucks each people who work there are very nice It's not for everyone, but I found it to be a personal & unique movie viewing experience :)

here's the deal with uptown 3. it is a small town theater run by locals. i dig it the concept...but i'm not a big fan of the execution in this case. let me tell you why... once upon a time, there was ANOTHER small town, locally owned theater in sv. this theater was well run, good smelling, decently priced and, although small, comfortable. sadly, this theater went out of business and we were left with the cinemark in the mall and uptown 3. uptown 3 smells like piss...someone needs to steam clean the shit outta this entire fucking building! it doesn't have stadium seating, which is a BIG drawback when you want to go to a new release and end up sitting...well, anywhere, but especially behind the fucking big ass head guy, or the chick with the massive hair (who needs that much volume...seriously?!) the prices on their snack bar are almost equivalent (if memory serves) to the cinemark (which is nicer and has a better selection). don't get me wrong, i still go here. (what can i say, they had prince caspian and i was not about to wait for that bitch to come out on dvd!) i wanna support the people who own/run this place, but if you want my business for something other than a big premiere, changes must be made!

Don't take discover card, so wouldn't honor Cars 2 free ticket! Frustrating... Had the feel of a Dollar Theater instead of a theater showing new releases and charging regular ticket prices. I probably didn't have to pay for a ticket because I walked right but the people at the concession stand and into the theater to save seats for my family while they were in line... I had a baby carrier in the first seat and I was standing in front of the first seat semi-blocking the row for my family and someone STILL cut in without asking if I was saving seats...that was also a bit frustrating... Got the grungy feeling after sitting in the theater...
